UYFC Assesses the 5th Commune/Sangkat Council Election Freely, Without Coercion, Intimidation and Violence

Phnom Penh: The Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia assessed that the process of this past 5th Mandate Commune/Sangkat Council Election was conducted in a good, non-coercive, non-threatening and non-violent environment during the election campaign, during the election, and during the vote count. Furthermore, the election was free, fair, and just in accordance with the laws and regulations and procedures for the election in force.

In a statement issued on Saturday 11 June, after participating in the careful and responsible observation of this election, from the voter registration stage, election campaign, election, and ballot counting, especially after reviewing the reports received from its observers at all polling stations and counting stations throughout the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia found that the election campaign, the election, and the counting of the 5th Mandate Commune/Sangkat Council election was conducted without intimidation, without violence, and in accordance with the laws, regulations, and procedures of the election in force.

Despite a small number of irregularities and complaints during the election campaign, the NEC mediated and resolved those complaints in accordance with the laws and regulations and procedures for the elections in force that are monitored and assessed by observers as independent, neutral, and impartial.

In the contribution to building a country full of peace, freedom, democracy and social progress in accordance with the mission stated in its statute, the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia, the largest non-governmental organization of Cambodian youth from all over the country, has been monitoring the election process in the Kingdom of Cambodia since 2016 to contribute to the democratic process in Cambodia.

For the 5th Mandate Commune/Sangkat Council Election, the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia had a total of 39,815 youth volunteers who were recognized by the National Election Committee (NEC) to be observers in the election.
